Churchill Downs Incorporated, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, owns and operates world-renowned horse racing venues throughout the United States. CDI's six racetracks in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Louisiana host many of North America's most prestigious races, including the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, Arlington Million, Princess Rooney Handicap, Louisiana Derby and Indiana Derby. CDI racetracks have also hosted six Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. CDI also owns off-track betting facilities and has interests in various television production, telecommunications and racing services companies that support CDI's network of simulcasting and racing operations. |

1875: Churchill Downs racetrack began operating in Louisville Kentucky; in that year it hosted the first Kentucky Derby 1882: The Louisville track was officially named Churchill Downs 1902: A syndicate led by Matt Winn bought Churchill Downs 1908: Winn introduced pari-mutuel machines at Churchill Downs, leading eventually to the proliferation of pari-mutuel wagering and revival of horseracing in the United States 1919: The Kentucky Jockey Club assumed ownership of Churchill Downs 1928: The American Turf Association, which owned six other tracks, replaced the Kentucky Jockey Club as Churchill Downs' owner 1950: The American Turf Association was dissolved, and its stock is exchanged for that of Churchill Downs, Inc. Churchill Downs was the group's only property 1952: The first national telecast of the Kentucky Derby aired on May 3rd 1974: Derby celebrated its 100th running 1984:Churchill Downs began a 5 year, $25 million renovation 1989:Renovation completed; including clubhouse improvements, barn area improvements, and general core renovations 1994: Hoosier Park at Anderson, in which Churchill Downs owned a 77% interest and managed, opened as the first pari-mutuel wagering facility in Indiana 1998: Churchill Downs purchased the Calder Race Course and Tropical Park in Miami, Florida 1998: Churchill Downs purchased Ellis Park Race Coourse in Henderson, Kentucky, along with the Kentucky Horse Center 1999: Churchill Downs purchased Hollywood Park Race Track in Inglewood, California 1999: Charleson Broadcast Technologies LLC., a racing simulcast in which CDI owns a majority stake, began operation 1999: NASRIN Services LLC, which provided telecommunications consulting, network management and long-distance services related to simulcasting; CDI owns a minority stake 2000: Arlington Park merged with Churchill Downs, giving Churchill Downs a reacetrack in Arlington Heights, Illinois 2002: Churchill Downs began Phase I of a $121 million renovation, including 64 luxury suites 2003:Phase II of the renovation began, which would take 2 years to complete 2004: Churchill Downs Simulcast Productions was formed in January 2004 when CDI purchased the minority interest in Charleson Broadcast Technologies LLC 2004: Churchill Downs acquired the Fair Grounds Race Course and Finish Line Off-Track Betting properties in and around New Orleans, Louisiana 2005: Churchill Downs completed the sale of Hollywood Park for $254 million 2005: Churchill Downs renovation completed, construction provided an additional 404,000 square feet and increased the permanent seating capacity to approximately 52,000 2006: Churchill Downs sold Ellis Park to Kentucky businessman and horseman Ron Geary 2007: Churchill Downs sold its majority interest in Hoosier Park to Centaur Inc. 2007: Churchill Downs launches TwinSpires.com, an online wagering platform 2008: Permanent casino opens at Fair Grounds Race Course. 2010: Churchill Downs opened Calder Casino (Miami Gardens, Florida) 2010: Churchill Downs acquired YouBet 2010: Churchill Downs purchased Harlow's Casino Resort and Hotel 2012: Churchill Downs aquired Riverwalk Casino Hotel in Vicksburg, Mississippi 2012: Churchill Downs acquires Bluff Media 2013: Churchill Downs acquired Oxford Casino in Oxford, Maine 2013: Churchill Downs opened Miami Valley Gaming and Racing (north of Cincinatti, Ohio)
