NOTE: This is the history of the current company "Las Vegas Sands," not the storied Sands casino hotel 1979: Sheldon Adelson founds the COMDEX computer trade show, which eventually becomes the world's largest trade show, and provides Adelson with income to explore other acquisitions 1989: Sheldon Adelson buys the Sands Hotel and Casino 1990: Sands Expo convention center opens 1995: Adelson sells the Interface Group Show Division, including the COMDEX shows, for a cash price in excess of $860 million, and uses the money to begin planning the Venetian 1996: The Sands is closed and imploded to make way for the Venetian, an all-suite casino resort; the Sands Expo Center is not demolished, and is integrated into the Venetian property 1997: Ground is broken on the Venetian 1999: The Venetian opens on the Las Vegas Strip, as a 3000-room plus all-suite hotel 2003: The Venezia Tower, a 1,013-suite expansion of the Venetian, opens 2004: Adelson takes Las Vegas Sands Corp. public; its stock is traded under the ticker symbol LVS 2004: Sands Macau opens; it is the first foreign-owned casino in Macau 2004: Construction of the Palazzo Casino Resort, adjacent to the Venetian, begins 2006: Las Vegas Sands was awarded the license to construct an "Integrated Resort" (casino resort), tentatively named The Marina Bay Sands, in Marina Bay, Singapore. 2007: Venetian Macau opens 2008: The Palazzo, adjacent to and connected to the Venetian in Las Vegas, opens 2009: Sands Bethlehem (Pennsylvania) opens 2010: Marina Bay Sands (Singapore) opens 2012: Sands Cotai Central (Macau) opens |
